Thanksgiving Lunch – 11/19/15

Please join Richmond County Home Educators on Thursday, November 19th, 2015 for a Thanksgiving Celebration.

Where: Beverly Hills Baptist Church, 110 Kemberly St, Rockingham, NC 28379

Time: 11:30am – 1:30pm

What: Thanksgiving lunch and show-and-tell

Other:

  • Parents and students may participate in a Talent Show / Show-and-Tell opportunity. Anyone may stand up in front of the group to share something: a memory verse or poem, play an instrument, demonstrate something, show a craft they have made, or something else!
  • A holiday marketplace will be set up after the Thanksgiving lunch. Children and adults from Richmond County Home Educators may set up food, craft or miscellaneous items to sell.

Pumpkin Patch – 10/22/15

Please join Richmond County Home Educators on Thursday, October 22, 2015 for a visit from The Berry Patch Mobile Farm.

Where: Mount Olive Baptist Church, 596 E Washington St Ext, Rockingham. NC 28379

Time: 11:00am – 12:30pm

What: Families may enjoy a fall and harvest learning experience from Farmer Lee of The Berry Patch. Families may bring a picnic lunch to enjoy afterwards. There is a large field for free-play.

Cost: $7/child (any child ages 6 months+ )

Other:

In addition to a visit from the owner of the World’s Largest Strawberry, Farmer & Mayor of Ellerbe Lee Berry, our Mobile Farm includes:

  • One free pumpkin per child
  • A cup of homemade ice cream (children and adults)
  • Photo booth complete with fall-themed cutouts, hay bales and pumpkins

We will have use of restroom facilities inside the main building at Mount Olive Baptist Church.

Please Note: Mount Olive Christian Childcare often has children traveling between buildings, please use extra caution when driving though parking lot. RCHE families may park nearest the basketball hoop end of the parking lot.

State Capitol – 11/5/15

Please join Richmond County Home Educators on Thursday, November 5, 2015 for a trip to the State Capitol.

Where:  NC Museum/Government Center Parking, 100 E. Jones St, Raleigh, NC 27601

Time: 10:30am – 2:30pm

Families wishing to carpool or caravan together may meet at 8:15am in the public parking lot adjoining Discovery Place Kids. Otherwise, please meet outside the main entrance to the North Carolina Museum of History at 10:30am.

What: Guided tour of the State Capitol, self-guided exploration of the NC Museum of History and guided tour of the Governor’s Mansion.

Living History Experience – 10/10/15

Please join Richmond County Home Educators on Saturday, October 10, 2015 for Civil War Living History presentation.

Where: First Assembly of God, 160 Clemmer Rd, Rockingham, NC 28379

Time: 10:00am – 12:00pm

What: Families may enjoy learning about the Civil War through using “Living Historians.”  These historians are experts on the time frames they represent and their presentation is enhanced by the use of original and/or accurate reproduction uniforms, weapons and other items germane to each time period.

The North Carolina Zoo – 10/1/15

Please join Richmond County Home Educators on Thursday, October 1,  2015 for a trip to The North Carolina Zoo.

Where: North Carolina Zoo, 4401 Zoo Parkway,  Asheboro, NC 27205

Time: 9:30am – noon

Families wishing to carpool or caravan together may meet at 8:15am in the public parking lot adjoining Discovery Place Kids. Otherwise, meet at North America Entrance for the zoo entrance at 9:30am.

What: Families can explore the NC Zoo or conduct school lessons related to the zoo.

Please call the zoo at 336-879-7700 prior to September 10 , 2015. The NC Zoo will send a confirmation email. Print out the email and bring it with. Electronic copies are not acceptable.

Other:

  • Some families may wish to bring a picnic lunch. There is also food for purchase inside the zoo.

Kick-Off Party – 8/10/15

Please join Richmond County Home Educators on Monday, August 10th, 2015 for The School Year Kick-Off Party!

Where: Mount Olive Baptist Church, 596 E Washington St, Ext, Rockingham NC 28379

Time: 6:30pm – 8:00pm

What:  Come kick-off the 2015-2016 homeschool year with us. Bring a treat to share, preview the calendar for the year.

There is no charge for this event.

Other:

  • Fill our the RCHE Application before you come
  • Bring your $10 annual dues and get a receipt on Monday

End-of-Year Party! 6-4-15

Please join Richmond County Home Educators on Thursday, June 4th, 2015 for Field Day!

This will be the last formal event until August 2015.

Where: First Presbyterian Church, 133 W Ballard St, Ellerbe, NC 28338

Time: 10:00am – 2:00pm

What: Come play, hang out and socialize and celebrate!  Family-friendly field day games, a playground and makings for an ice-cream social will all be available.

Other:

  1. We need parent-volunteers to help with games, sign up
  2. Please sign up each child; teams will be determined ahead of time.
  3. Wear clothing you don’t mind getting wet or dirty; a swimsuit and sunscreen are highly recommended.
  4. There are accessible restrooms available on-site.

  6. There is a fenced playground as well as a large field area for games.
  7. Bring a picnic lunch for your family.
  8. Richmond County Home Educators will provide an ice cream social at the end of Field Day.

Early College High School Presentation – 5/28/15

Please join Richmond County Home Educators on Thursday, May 28, 2015 for a Early College High School presentation.

Where: Roberdel Baptist Church, 1118 Richmond Rd., Rockingham NC

Time: 10:00am – 11:00am

What: Presentation and questions & answer session regarding options for the Richmond Early College High School program at Richmond Community College.

Other: Parents may hear about the program from Early College High School liaison, children may enjoy listening in or spend time on the playground equipment.  There is an early college program for Scotland County also.

Park Day – 5/7/15

Please join Richmond County Home Educators on Thursday, May 7th, 2015 for Park Day/4-H Sign up.

Where: Castlewood Park, 522 Ledbetter Rd, Rockingham, NC 28379

Time: 1:30pm – 3:30pm

What: Come play, hang out and socialize. Some families may be coming straight from the National Day of Prayer event.

Other:

  1. Parents may bring their student’s art to the park on May 7th.  If that day/time is not convenient, arrangements can be made before that date.
  2. Registration forms for the 2015-2016 4-H group will be available at Park Day.
  3. Restrooms and drinking fountain available,  fenced play area and a nice walking trail.

Richmond County Home Educators would like to communicate information about a community event that may interest some of our families.

Tina A. Morgan, the author of “Auntie M” children’s books collections, will conduct a book signing on Thursday, May 7th, 2015.
